17 Jun 2025Introducing Nina Bonner – Senior Dietitian St George Cancer Services
It is Dietitian Week 16 – 22 June and we are celebrating a respected colleague who has been a steadfast member of the Multidisciplinary Team at St George Cancer Services, our colleague Nina Bonner. Nina with 20 + years as a dietitian is used to navigating the world of food and cancer patients having treatment. This is not always an easy path as it is usually the time most people are not interested in food and eating seems sometimes a mountain too high to climb. There are many ways of maintaining good caloric intake and optimize nutrition when having treatment, but the expertise of an experienced dietitian is invaluable. You will usually find Nina with her head down somewhere in the waiting room checking in on her patients. She works quietly alongside her colleagues to improve our patient’s outcomes. Another not much known fact is that Nina raises funds to buy bennies each winter for our brain cancer patients. With much thanks Happy Dietitian Week Nina.

Introducing 𝗗𝗿 𝗝𝗼𝗲𝗹 𝗣𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁 at St George Hospital Cancer Care Centre. Joel will be presenting at the St George & Sutherland Medical Research Foundation (SSMRF) Annual Dinner Friday 4 April as a successful grant recipient of the 2024 Research Grants. Joel’s research looks at the provision of same day radiation planning and treatment for patients with metastatic brain cancer. The project will look to validate 𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 tools used in the planning phase of radiation treatment. These tools will allow an MRI taken in the morning, then planning the radiation dose for multiple brain tumours followed by treatment in the afternoon. Once the artificial intelligence tools have been validated the project will move to clinical trial. This project has the potential to make a significant impact on the speed in which treatment can be offered for patients with metastatic brain cancers. The SSMRF Research Grant has been sponsored by Southern Cancer Care. If you would like to attend and hear more tickets are available https://events.humanitix.com/ssmrf-annual-celebration-dinner
